The November 2021 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.
The way we physically and emotionally look at a situation directly affects our lives. Working with cancer patients and their families for almost 10 years has completely changed my outlook on just about everything. I realize that many of the things I complain about are actually things a recipient would be happy to take on in place of their cancer diagnosis. My headaches now seem so frivolous. When I’m tired, I remind myself I’m lucky I can be on-the-go for 16 hours. Leaky roof? At least I have a home. Kids that drive me nuts? At least they are in good health. Achy bones? At least I am still able to run a half marathon. Hair a mess? At least I have hair.
So, as we approach the season of “being thankful” I can’t help but wonder why we focus so much on this at the end of the year and not all year round. Can you imagine how much better life would be if we could concentrate on what’s good in our lives and spend less time complaining about what isn’t?
Perspective isn’t about how you look at something but how you see it. Being blessed is knowing the difference.
