The July 2018 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.
I have conversations often with recipients and potential recipients who do not use our services or, who do not use our services through the entire length of their treatment because they believe another family might need it more. I had the conversation again recently and I thought it might be helpful to put my answer in this month’s Chirp.
When we feed your family, there is not another one being turned away. We can feed your family and hundreds of other people.
YOU are not taking away a meal from a family who might “need it more”. Your stage 1 breast cancer is not being compared to a stage 3 colon cancer patient. Let’s just get rid of the stages for a minute and keep in mind….chemo is chemo. Surgeries and radiation aren’t a picnic and each person handles treatment differently.
Your family might bring in $100,000 a year while another family brings in half of that…but one of the reasons why we don’t care about your finances is because it DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER FACING A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. You’re now trying to figure out how to cook for your family when you feel so sick. You’re trying to figure out how to cook for someone in your family who is sick while you have to work full time as well.
Your homemade meals do not affect meals for another family in need. Please use us. That’s what we are here for.
