The November 2017 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.

Krista Jones, Founder of Sparrow's Nest Charity

It’s the hustle and bustle time of year, when families gather together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year, I thought it would be a great time to reflect on what I am thankful for.

I am thankful, first and foremost, for my good health, something I have learned not to take lightly. Cancer does not believe in discrimination and therefore doesn’t care about your fitness level, your salary, your family, or where you live, work, or go to school. So, considering there is no rhyme or reason to who gets cancer and who doesn’t, I am most thankful I have good health.

I am thankful for my family, who like so many, makes sacrifices so I can pursue my passions. I can’t imagine being able to do what I do without them.

I am thankful for my friends who are like family to me and have instilled in me the confidence to continue chasing my dreams.

I am thankful for staff and board members who listen to my crazy ideas and try to incorporate the ones that make the most sense into this organization.

I am thankful for our volunteers who spend countless hours peeling potatoes, kneading bread and driving around 4 counties making sure our recipients get their home cooked meals.

I am thankful for this community and the way you embrace Sparrow’s Nest without hesitation and make us feel at home.

I am thankful for our donors, runners, event and corporate sponsors who give so selflessly so we can continue helping others.

I am thankful for our recipients, who show me every day what my true priorities should be.

I hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving with family and friends surrounding you, and I hope you find it in your heart to continue giving of yourselves to help those who are less fortunate. One day, I hope to write how thankful I am for a cure for cancer. Until then, Sparrow’s Nest will continue helping our neighbors navigate through unchartered territory, one meal at a time.
