The February 2017 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.

Krista Jones, Founder of Sparrow's Nest CharitySpring is in the air and with it Sparrow’s Nest is again sprouting as we announce a new home for our charity. In an effort to serve more families in our local area, we are moving our kitchen, currently attached to my house, and our offices, currently upstairs in the Summerlin Plaza, to a new home on the ground level.

I would be remiss not to mention the sacrifices my husband and children have made over the past 2 years with a commercial kitchen attached to our house. With volunteers in and out all week and weekend long, my family lost most of their privacy and I am happy to give them some of it back. Not to say they complained at all, just the opposite in fact. My children learned by “living” Sparrow’s Nest what it meant to be less fortunate, to lose normalcy, to face an uncertain disease with uncertain consequences. My husband readily let go of our privacy as he watched me and our volunteers work around the clock cooking for almost 200 people each week.

Nonetheless, I am happy to give them back their home and happier to have a place that allows us to cook more than once a week. We will be able to expand our driver and volunteer hours, providing more opportunities for our community to help. We will be able to open our doors to the public for holiday dinners and goodies and we will be hiring an executive chef to continue providing scrumptious food to our local families facing a cancer diagnosis… and that’s not all.

This move will allow us to further expand the mission and who we feed. We hope to have another announcement next month. So, as promised, we really are just get started. That being said, I also need to extend a huge amount of gratitude to my small staff and dedicated board members, who despite my crazy ideas, always say yes and figure out a way to make it all work. Thank you to the wonderful community that continues to support us and joins us in our excitement as we grow. Stay tuned for more wonderful things to come.
