The August 2017 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.

Krista Jones, Founder of Sparrow's Nest CharityLast month, we announced our mission expansion to include children who are diagnosed with cancer. How could we not? In an effort to take care of the whole family, it has always been our goal, once we reached sustainability, to open our charity to feeding children who are sick as well as caregivers. As much as I knew it was the right decision, a phone call from a frantic mom drove it home last week.

After spending a week in the hospital with her child (can you even imagine?) she received the devastating news her daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia and with that one word, her world came crashing down. She had already left the rest of her family home, fending for themselves, and now she would spend the next few months in a hospital room taking care of her youngest child. She apologized profusely for the late notice, but wanted to know if it was possible to get her family on our delivery scheduled for the following week. Of course I didn’t even hesitate and as she heard me say yes, she started sobbing uncontrollably. I found out her little one loves meatballs and her son’s favorite dinner is creamy mac and cheese… and that was all it took to get the kitchen workers scrambling finding ways to make this family as comfortable as possible during this trying time.

Though I didn’t need the affirmation it was still nice to know the decision to add diagnosed children to our mission was the right one. Again, we can only do what we do because of the generosity of people like you. You are our true heroes and we invite you to our upcoming Superhero event so we can celebrate you!

Here are some other highlights:

  • We’re cutting the ribbon on our new digs…and YOU’RE invited!
  • Our 4th annual Super Hero 5K is on September 10th, and we’re looking for vendors!
  • Dust off your air guitar, because we’re gettin’ ready to Rock The Nest on September 30th!
