The August 2016 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from founder Krista Jones.

Krista Jones, Founder of Sparrow's Nest CharityIt started as a whisper. A whisper that has turned into a rather loud voice, reassuring me as great as this Charity is and as many as we feed, this isn’t where it stops. There are times in our life when we hear “that voice” and choose to ignore it or convince ourselves we didn’t really even hear it to begin with.  I think that can be said about this voice that I am hearing. I think I have ignored it out of fear of what it really means. It means going outside my comfort zone, when things behind the scenes are finally running smoothly. It means taking a risk and expanding when I am not even sure what the charity’s full potential is yet.

Expanding how? Who we feed in our local families? How far we travel to feed others? Opening chapters throughout the State? As the butterflies in my stomach start to flutter at the thought, I think about how I even got this far. I think about this simple idea and how many laughed it off. I think about all the doors that closed in my face when I needed a place to cook and the people who refused to fund us because they never thought we could sustain the charity.

Then, I think of the community that rallied around when I finally pushed all the negativity aside. When I took my leap of faith, I think of all the strangers who insisted on helping to grow this mission, I think of the hundreds of women and men who formed Team Sparrow and blindly started raising money and running many, many miles for those who can’t. I think of all this and I realize this is what every community needs and though I don’t know exactly what the future holds, I am 100 percent confident this is just the beginning.

Big things are coming to Sparrow’s Nest. I hope you find the strength to listen to the whispers that encourage you to take a leap of faith. That strength can lead you to great things.

Additionally, this edition also highlighted an upcoming Meal Prep Workshop Fundraiser on August 26th.

Here are some other highlights:
